Windies In Great Spirits, Cricket Main Focus

A day after the stone pelting incident in Dhaka, West Indies team manager Philip Sooner on Saturday said the side was in "great spirits" and focusing on cricket and doing well in the World Cup.

"The team is in great spirits. We had a meeting this morning where we discussed the (Dhaka) incident. We are here to play cricket and that's our focus," Spooner said after the team reached here this evening from Dhaka.

"We want to concentrate on cricket and do well," he said, adding, the team was apprised about the situation.

Led by skipper
Darren Sammy, West Indies team members, including Chris Gayle, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul, Kemar Roach and D Bravo, dressed in white T-shirts and black trousers, looked relaxed upon their arrival.

Angry Bangladeshi fans had on Friday attacked the West Indies team bus after the home side suffered a humiliating nine-wicket defeat after being bowled out for their lowest ODI score of 58 at the Shere Bangla Stadium.

Security had been beefed up at Hotel Taj where the team is staying ahead of their clash with giant-killers
Ireland at PCA stadium, Mohali on Friday.

"Our CEO has spoken to the ICC. They were in discussion on the security issue," Spooner said.

He, however, said he was not in a position to share much details.

Referring to the stone-pelting incident, Spooner said "whatever happened yesterday was unfortunate."

Asked about the comments of
Chris Gayle on tweeter on Friday's incident and if it was still at the back of minds of players, he said the team was looking forward to playing some good cricket and not thinking about it anymore.

"We really believe we can do well," he said and expressed his satisfaction with the security arrangements made here.

He also had a word with the local police after their arrival.

Chandigarh Police have made tight security arrangements, both inside and outside Hotel Taj. Police also video graphed those present at the hotel lobby when the team arrived.
