Afridi Leaps In ICC Rankings For Bowlers

Karachi, Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi moved up 12 places up to secure 11th spot in Reliance ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers after capturing five and four wickets against Kenya and Sri Lanka respectively in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

However, Afridi, who started his career as a swashbuckling batsman, has dropped by five places and the all-rounder now occupies 35th spot in the rankings for batsman. After a consistent show in the first two matches of the world cup, experienced batsman Misbah-ul-Haq has jumped up 12 places to secure 32nd spot. Former skipper Younus Khan has also moved up by four places to 44th position.

Pacer Shoaib Akhtar has also made his presence felt in the World Cup as he jumped up seven places to secure 37th position. Meanwhile, Australia’s Shane Watson, JP Duminy of South Africa, Netherlands’ Ryan ten Doeschate and South Africa’s Dale Steyn have all achieved personal landmarks.

Watson, who scored 79 against Zimbabwe and 62 against New Zealand, has climbed four places to break into the top 10 for the first time in his career. Duminy’s contribution of 42 not out against the West Indies has lifted him two places to share 15th spot with captain Graeme Smith and West Indies’ Chris Gayle while Ten Doeschate’s 110-ball 119 against England has helped him vault 12 places to 20th position as Steyn has jumped four places to fourth position after his figures of 3-24 against the West Indies.
